Pre-Installation Survey Summary

  1. Cable run distance: approximately 100 m
  2. Elevated work required — cables routed through ceiling-mounted ducts
  3. 3-person, 1-day installation planned
  4. Noticeably cleaner environment compared to a typical wastewater treatment plant

Site Arrival — Confectionery Factory in Icheon

The team was escorted to the installation area by facility personnel. Materials were organized and an installation briefing conducted before work began.

Installation Points — Detector Inside, Display Board Outside

Installation underway.

  • FIX800: O₂ 0–30% / H₂S 0–100 ppm
  • Moisture pretreatment unit (moisture and dust filter)
  • LED display board + beacon alarm

FIX800 measures gas concentrations continuously 24 hours a day. Real-time values are displayed on the board, and audible/visual alarms activate when configured thresholds are exceeded. PLC integration allows readings to be monitored from the office as well.

Remote Control — Configuration Without Disassembly

WANDI FIX800 supports remote control operation. Unlike typical fixed detectors that require physical access for adjustments, the FIX800 allows alarm threshold setting, calibration, and output mode changes via remote — without disassembling the installed unit.

Power and Communication Cable Routing

Despite the considerable distance between the detector and display board, cables were routed neatly using waterproof flexible conduit.

Commissioning — Span Gas Testing

Operator training was successfully completed.

Installation Summary

  • Location: Confectionery and bakery factory, Icheon, Gyeonggi-do
  • Products: FIX800 O₂ 0–30% / H₂S 0–100 ppm + customized pretreatment unit + LED display board and beacon alarm
  • Crew: 3 personnel
  • Duration: approximately 4 hours
  • Special features: Elevated work at approximately 2–3 m / concrete drilling at 22 mm diameter

Where a detector is installed inside a confined space, an external display board and beacon provide audible and visual alarms when set values are exceeded. In high-humidity environments, a moisture pretreatment system removes condensate before it reaches the sensor — ensuring stable, accurate long-term measurement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. Why is H₂S generated at a confectionery factory wastewater treatment plant?

Confectionery manufacturing uses organic-rich ingredients — butter, eggs, dairy products — resulting in high organic content in the process wastewater. Anaerobic decomposition converts sulfur compounds in these organics to H₂S. Although the environment is cleaner than a typical municipal wastewater plant, the H₂S generation risk is essentially the same wherever organic-rich wastewater is collected.

Q2. Why is a moisture pretreatment unit required?

Electrochemical sensors are highly susceptible to liquid moisture. In high-humidity wastewater environments, condensation in the sampling line can flow back to the sensor and cause damage or measurement error. The pretreatment unit removes moisture and particulates from the sample gas before it reaches the sensor — protecting it and ensuring accurate readings.

Q3. Is RS-485 communication reliable over a 100 m cable run?

RS-485 supports stable data transmission up to 1.2 km. A 100 m run is well within the specification and operates without signal attenuation or noise issues. Using shielded AWG cable provides additional rejection of electromagnetic interference from other electrical equipment nearby.

Q4. What can be adjusted via the FIX800 remote control?

Alarm thresholds (upper and lower), calibration functions (zero and span), output signal mode, and data review can all be performed remotely without physical access to the installed unit. This is particularly valuable for instruments installed in hazardous or hard-to-reach locations.

Q5. Why are both a display board and a beacon alarm used together?

The display board provides continuous visual information about gas concentrations for anyone approaching the entry point. The beacon alarm triggers immediate audible and visual warning when hazardous levels are reached — ensuring that all nearby workers are instantly alerted. Together, they form a dual-mode alarm system that maximizes safety coverage in the monitored area.
