This site was a rather unusual case. We installed oxygen concentration detectors in the server room and control room inside a power plant, to protect indoor air quality and ensure safety.
When people think of confined space safety management, they usually picture places with strong odors and a history of accidents, such as septic tanks, wastewater treatment rooms, or boiler rooms, as candidates for detector installation. However, server rooms and control rooms are also critical facilities, and the truth is that they can be vulnerable to gas incidents as well.

Server rooms and control rooms are facilities that oversee and manage all of the systems and equipment within a power plant.
If a fire or power outage were to occur, even a momentary stoppage of the power plant's equipment could cause enormous losses and damage. That is why the server rooms and control rooms of power plants are mostly equipped with UPS backup power systems.
In these UPS battery rooms, aging or damaged batteries can generate hydrogen (H2) gas. In addition, since server rooms and control rooms are themselves protected zones, CO2 fire-suppression gas can be released in the event of a fire.
For these reasons, server rooms and control rooms are, in fact, spaces that are exposed to gas hazards.

In particular, server rooms and control rooms are spaces where personnel are almost always present, which means they can also be highly vulnerable to asphyxiant gases such as fire-suppression agents.
To help prevent this type of accident, we installed FIX800 fixed-type gas detectors equipped with O2 (oxygen) sensors in both the control room and the server room.
An oxygen sensor simply displays the current oxygen concentration of the space, which is the most common measurement used. Normal oxygen concentration is 20.9%. If the oxygen level drops to 16% or below due to a gas leak, workers begin to experience headaches and nausea. For this reason, Korea's Occupational Safety and Health Act designates the appropriate oxygen level within confined spaces as 18-23.5%.

The FIX800 gas detector is a modular, combination-type gas detector. In other words, if you only need an oxygen sensor, you can choose a model equipped with just an O2 sensor; if you want O2, CO, H2S, and LEL sensors together, it can be built in four different configurations. Approximately 50 types of gas sensors are available, and up to 4 sensors can be selected and installed on a single unit.

Why does a server room or control room need a gas detector?
These rooms typically house UPS battery systems, which can release hydrogen (H2) gas if the batteries age or are damaged.
