FIX800 Fixed Multi-Gas Detector (O2/H2S) and Display Board Installation — Wastewater Treatment Facility at a Golf Course (Jeju)

Hello, this is RS Korea. After a previous A/S inspection trip to Jeju Island, we had visited a site to conduct a survey ahead of a planned installation — this post covers the follow-up visit to carry out that installation.

■ Purpose of installation

The detector was installed at a sewage treatment facility with a narrow, enclosed entrance. To reduce the risk of asphyxiation and limit workers' exposure to gases generated at the facility, a fixed-type multi-gas detector, the FIX800 (O2 0–30% vol, H2S 0–100 ppm), was installed. While a portable gas detector with an attached pump can be used by workers directly, this still requires approaching close to the entrance to take a reading, and response time increases if the pump is positioned too far from the source. To improve both convenience and safety, a fixed-type detector was installed instead.

■ Installation items

The installation included a FIX800 2-gas detector and an electronic display board.

■ Installation locations

At sewage treatment plant No. 1, the client requested that the detector be positioned so the internal gas concentration is visible as soon as the entrance's iron door is opened.

At sewage treatment plant No. 2, the display board was requested to be mounted on the ceiling before the entrance, so the reading is visible from outside before entering.

■ Installation

Installation was carried out at both sewage treatment plants. Routing the conduit carefully along the ceiling took considerable time.

As with the first plant, the unit was installed so the internal concentration reading is visible from above, and configured in a display-board format so the concentration can be checked before entering.

After injecting test gas to trigger the alarm, we explained the calibration and A/S process to the site staff before wrapping up.

Portable gas detectors can confirm a worker's safety at the point of use, but a fixed-type detector improves safety, convenience, and efficiency in a different way. Portable detectors still have their place, but checking the current concentration with a fixed-type detector before using a portable unit further improves worker safety — which is why we recommend a fixed-type installation for environments like this.
