Project Details

Hello.

This is an installation case for a gas concentration measurement and alarm system to help prevent asphyxiation accidents in an underground wastewater treatment area at a general hospital.

For confined spaces in wastewater treatment areas, we typically supply and install a gas monitoring configuration equipped with O2 (oxygen) and H2S (hydrogen sulfide) sensors.

If a reading of 18.5% or lower oxygen concentration, or 10 ppm or higher hydrogen sulfide,

is detected, workers must leave the area immediately.

The data cable connecting the display board and the detector is then installed.

The wiring is finished securely using rigid conduit for durability and safety.

Because the system communicates over RS-485 digital communication, stable measurement and monitoring are possible without noise or signal hunting, even over long distances between the display board and the detector.

The gas detector is installed in locations most likely to generate gas, such as sludge storage tanks, thickening tanks, and settling tanks, and its mounting height is chosen based on the density of the target gas.

Hydrogen sulfide density: heavier than air

→ Recommended installation height: 30–50 cm from the floor

Oxygen density: intermediate

→ Recommended installation height: 100–150 cm

After installing the FIX800 gas detector, commissioning is carried out using standard gas.

A display board is installed at the point where workers enter, so that the indoor air condition can be checked before entry.

Even with a fixed gas detector installed, carrying a compact, portable measuring device for a double check adds an extra layer of safety.

If you need a confined-space gas leak detection system, please feel free to contact us and we will respond as quickly as possible.

Always work safely!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What gases does this installation measure?

To suit the confined space in the hospital's underground wastewater treatment area, we installed a FIX800 gas detector and FIX-DS display board equipped with O2 (oxygen) and H2S (hydrogen sulfide) sensors.

What readings require workers to evacuate?

Workers must leave the area immediately if the oxygen concentration falls to 18.5% or lower, or if hydrogen sulfide reaches 10 ppm or higher.

Where and at what height is the detector installed?

It is installed in locations most likely to generate gas, such as sludge storage tanks, thickening tanks, and settling tanks. Since hydrogen sulfide is heavier than air, a mounting height of 30–50 cm from the floor is recommended, while oxygen sensors (intermediate density) are mounted at 100–150 cm.

How are the display board and detector connected?

They communicate over RS-485 digital communication, allowing stable measurement and monitoring without noise or signal hunting even when the devices are far apart.

Is there any additional safety practice recommended beyond the fixed detector?

Even with a fixed gas detector installed, carrying a compact, portable measuring device as a double check adds an extra layer of safety.
