Project Details

Hello, this is RS Korea. Today's post covers the installation of fixed-type gas detectors and electronic display boards at the National Agricultural Products Quality Management Center in Anyang, Gyeonggi-do.

■ Installation environment

Purpose: to ensure the safety of workers and staff in an environment where a variety of gases are used.
Gases measured: O2 (oxygen), H2 (hydrogen).
Installation points: heavy metal equipment room, heavy metal pre-treatment room, residual pesticide pre-treatment room, standard material room, equipment rooms 1–3, data reading room, and gas room — nine points in total, plus four display board locations.

Since the facility is divided into several separate spaces, a FIX800 unit was installed at each location as needed. Equipment room 2 and the data reading room were each fitted with a FIX800 configured with dual O2/H2 sensors. Oxygen sensors were installed to assess worker risk levels based on oxygen concentration.

■ Installation work

Before any installation begins, we always start with the same steps: selecting mounting locations and planning the communication line routing.

The planned locations for each FIX800 unit and each display board were checked in advance and marked at the site. The points for the nine FIX800 units and four display boards were pre-selected and marked with blue tape.

Each custom-made display board was labeled in advance with the sensor type and installation location it corresponds to, so that even with multiple display boards installed, it's clear at a glance which location, gas type, and concentration each one is showing.

The installation team confirmed each marked location and carried out the installation with careful leveling checks. Much of the work was done above the ceiling — ceiling tiles were opened to route cabling and minimize visible wiring, and any wiring that remained exposed was neatly and safely organized using flexible cable conduit.

Looking at the installed units, some detectors are mounted low and others high — this reflects the physical properties of the two gases involved. Hydrogen is lighter than air and rises, so hydrogen detectors are generally mounted higher unless a specific leak point is suspected. Oxygen, in this case, was installed for worker safety monitoring, so the detectors were positioned at typical breathing height (seated or standing).

After confirming that the FIX800 units and display boards were all working correctly, the installation was complete. To summarize this site: the purpose was to ensure worker and staff safety in an environment using multiple gas types; the gases measured were O2 and H2; and the installation covered nine detector points — the heavy metal equipment room, heavy metal pre-treatment room, residual pesticide pre-treatment room, standard material room, equipment rooms 1–3, data reading room, and gas room — plus four display board locations.

This site used display boards for on-site monitoring only. For anyone who needs additional functionality — such as checking readings in real time from a PC, mobile device, or tablet, receiving alarm notifications, or reviewing data and installation locations remotely — RS Korea's FIX-AP system is also available, and more information can be found in a separate product post. For any other inquiries about gas detectors or environmental monitoring equipment, please feel free to contact us.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Why were both O2 and H2 sensors needed at this facility?

The facility handles a variety of gases across its equipment and pre-treatment rooms, so oxygen sensors were installed for general worker safety monitoring, while hydrogen sensors were added at points such as equipment room 2 and the data reading room where hydrogen leaks needed to be monitored.

Why are some detectors mounted high and others mounted low?

Hydrogen is lighter than air and tends to rise, so hydrogen detectors are generally mounted higher unless a specific leak point is suspected. Oxygen detectors used for worker safety are mounted at typical breathing height, since that's where a drop in oxygen concentration would affect a person.

What do the custom display boards show?

Each display board is labeled with the sensor type and installation location it corresponds to, so that even with multiple boards installed across the facility, it's clear at a glance which location, gas type, and concentration each one is reporting.

How is cable routing handled to keep the installation tidy?

Where possible, cabling is routed above the ceiling to minimize visible wiring, and any wiring that must remain exposed is organized using flexible cable conduit for a clean, safe finish.

Is remote monitoring available beyond the on-site display boards?

Yes. For facilities that need real-time readings, alarms, or remote data access from a PC, mobile device, or tablet, RS Korea's FIX-AP system extends monitoring beyond the on-site display boards.
