Installed Gases
Project Details
Hello, this is RS Korea. Today's post covers a request from a public institution in Siheung to install an oxygen concentration detector inside a wastewater storage tank at a wastewater treatment facility.
■ Purpose of installation
To measure the oxygen concentration inside the tank — which resembles a greenhouse enclosure — before it is cleaned, for the safety of workers entering this confined space.
■ Installation items
Given the nature of the environment, the unit was configured with a stainless steel (SUS) enclosure and a basic pre-treatment unit for moisture removal.
■ Installation process
The installation proceeded in the following order: anchor work to secure the pipe supporting the pre-treatment unit; fixing the SUS enclosure base; securing the pipe to the enclosure; connecting the power supply from the adjacent automatic control device; and connecting the SUS pipe into the storage tank.
The lower pipe was connected to draw the power line from the automatic control device next to it.
With the enclosure in place, the SUS pipe was connected to allow oxygen concentration measurement inside the wastewater storage tank.
The assembly was leveled using a laser level.
To prevent the thin stainless steel piping from being dented if a worker were to accidentally step on it, it was reinforced with a channel bracket and a thicker steel pipe as a double-layer configuration.
This process was repeated six times to complete all six sections of steel piping.
After installation, the facility's staff were briefed on the pre-treatment process and the calibration cycle, and the work concluded after cleaning up the interior. Even where installing a detector directly is difficult, we build custom pre-treatment units configured to match the site conditions and environment. In cases where it's hard to determine gas measurement feasibility over the phone alone, we confirm the details through an on-site survey and testing before advising on what's possible. Inquiries about detectors and installation are always welcome.
Beyond simply selling products, RS Korea specializes in gas measurement — including self-calibration, domestic repair (A/S), custom manufacturing, and installation work. Drawing on experience across demonstrations, site surveys, deliveries, repairs, and installations in a wide range of environments, we provide one-to-one customized solutions for gas measurement needs.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Why install an oxygen detector inside a wastewater storage tank?
Confined spaces like wastewater storage tanks can develop low-oxygen conditions, especially before cleaning work. Continuous oxygen monitoring protects workers from asphyxiation risk before they enter the space.
Why use a stainless steel (SUS) enclosure and pre-treatment unit?
Given the humid, moisture-heavy environment around a wastewater tank, an SUS enclosure combined with a basic moisture-removal pre-treatment unit protects the detector and keeps its readings reliable.
Why reinforce the piping with a double-layer steel configuration?
Thin stainless steel piping can dent if a worker accidentally steps on it. Adding a channel bracket or thicker steel pipe around the SUS piping protects it from this kind of accidental damage.
What happens if it's hard to tell whether gas measurement is feasible over the phone?
In such cases, an on-site survey and testing are carried out to confirm the actual conditions before advising on the right configuration.
Does RS Korea only sell gas detectors?
No — beyond product sales, RS Korea also provides self-calibration, domestic repair (A/S), custom manufacturing, and installation services, with customized solutions based on experience across many site environments.
