We visited the installation site this time in response to an inquiry about installing a gas meter for the safety of workers in the 'sewage pumping station', which is an inflow pump room, one of the processes inside the wastewater treatment plant. After completing the site inspection, we visited today for installation.■ Sewage and wastewater treatment process Sewage and wastewater are collectively called sewage, and the two have their own differences. What is sewage? It refers to domestic sewage discharged from bathrooms, kitchens, bathhouses, etc. in relation to people's daily lives. In other words, it refers to water that has become dirty due to human use. What is wastewater? In modern society with consumer and industrial activities, various wastes are constantly discharged as by-products of material civilization activities. Although there is household wastewater that discharges waste materials, the liquid discharged from factories is usually called wastewater. What is a sewage treatment plant? It is a place where sewage discharged from homes or pollutants is collected through conduits and the water quality is purified through biological, physical and chemical treatment processes. A lot of the water we use and discard in our daily lives contains a lot of nutrients (nitrogen and phosphorus), suspended solids, and organic matter. If this water flows directly into rivers or the sea, aquatic life will suffer a lot of damage. Sewage treatment improves water quality and improves the environment, including reducing pests and odors. It is also good for economic efficiency and maintenance because it is collected and treated.● Treatment process

Household (pollution source) → silt basin → inflow pump → initial sedimentation tank → aeration tank → final sedimentation tank → discharge household (pollution source) Sewage discharged from the home or pollution source flows in through the sewer. Soil, sand, and various debris that came with the silt ground sewage are pumped by a large pump to settle the manure inflow pump in the silt basin. It settles for a certain period of time and separates the substances that float on top from those that settle. Processing aerator blows treated air into the sewage, where microorganisms grow and the organic matter forms lumps and settles. Final sedimentation area stays for about 3 hours, and the organic matter lumps settle. The clear water on top is sent to the discharge area. Discharge. Cleanly purified water is sent to the river.

With one meter, it is possible to install five safety gases (O2, CO, H2S, LEL, CO2) according to the Occupational Safety and Health Act. Please refer to the photo above. The photo on the left shows when a single gas is installed, and the photo on the right shows when a combined gas is installed.

You can see that the size of the air chamber at the bottom is different. If you look at the measuring part, single gas has one measuring part, so the air chamber is thin, while composite gas has two or more measuring parts, so the air chamber is thicker.

From a list of over 40 gases, from a single gas to a maximum of 5 gases can be installed when dual sensors are installed, and the installed gases are displayed at the same time as they are measured, allowing you to check the measured values in real time. Outside the entrance, in accordance with the rules on industrial safety and health standards, there was a sign prohibiting entry into confined spaces in relation to Form No. 4, indicating that it was a suffocation risk space.

● Installation points

This is the point of installing an electronic display board. When you open the door from the entrance that is completely connected to the outside, you can see the entrance to the inflow pump room. An electronic display board is scheduled to be installed on the top of the entrance door. If you go through the entrance to the pump room and go down to the basement, you will find the inflow pump room.

Since the gas meter has not yet been installed, open the entrance to provide sufficient ventilation and check the inside situation with a portable meter before entering.

This is the point of installing the measuring device. The gas measuring device is scheduled to be installed at a height of 140 to 150 cm from the ground at about eye level. ■ Installation

This is today's installation equipment. There are products to be installed, brackets, gas concentration status board (electronic signboard), and other materials. The brand's own calibration report certifying that the product has been calibrated before shipment is also enclosed.

First, position the product using the bracket, and then position the gas concentration status board outside the entrance.

After determining the installation location of the product, proceed with power supply and communication line work.■ Installation complete.

Installation has been completed. Power and communication tests have been carried out and they are displayed on the electronic display board without any problems. The installation work has been completed after alarm and warning tests, test runs, and product information. When everything was completed and I entered from the outside of the entrance to take photos of the site, the entrance to the inlet pump room was closed for a moment, and as soon as the door was closed, a bad smell came right up. At first, there were no problems as we entered after sufficient ventilation as it was before installation work, but even when the door was closed for a moment, a foul odor rose and the meter responded immediately. So far, I have been to many sites, and in places where gas meters are not installed, I enter after ensuring sufficient ventilation. Even during construction, ventilation was done periodically, so I simply thought, 'It's a bit of a smelly site. It must be dangerous.' I thought so. However, it was the first time that the entrance was closed at this site, so it was a good opportunity to realize for myself, "Wow, it is a really dangerous space, so they legislated to install a measuring device."... In a gas measuring environment, when you do not know the gas generated, or when you know the gas generated but cannot confirm the exact concentration, it is difficult to make a choice before purchasing. For safety, it is important to purchase a gas meter with an accurate measurement range by considering everything such as environmental factors, generated gas, frequency, and concentration through sufficient consultation with an expert.
