RS Korea — Fixed Gas Leak Detector Installation at Landfill Gas Processing Facility

RS Korea received a referral from a combined heat and power plant it had serviced the previous March: another department at the same organization had seen the installed fixed gas detector and LED display board and requested a similar gas leak detection system for worker safety at its landfill gas processing facility. Configuration: A fixed gas detector was installed inside the confined space to monitor for gas leaks before and during work, paired with an LED display board mounted outside so gas concentrations can be checked before entry. Installation: To protect workers at the landfill gas transfer pipe's condensate collection sump, a detector was installed inside the space and a display board outside, positioned so it is visible both from below the work area and upon entering the site from outside. Since the display board was mounted outdoors, the customer asked about waterproofing — RS Korea explained that display boards are always built for outdoor use, and offered to show the customer a similar unit installed at last year's site as reference, subsequently visiting that site and confirming there had been no service calls related to the display board since installation. At the sump, methane gas is separated from moisture drawn from the landfill gas; the moisture is retained in the sump while methane is routed to the flare stack system. To guard against methane leaks in the flare stack's operating area, a combustible gas detector was installed in that system room as well. After completing installation at both the sump and the flare stack facility, RS Korea demonstrated the alarm test and gas response to the facility manager before finishing the work.
