Project Details
RS Korea completed installation of a FIX800 fixed five-gas detector and FIX-DS LED status board in the underground wastewater treatment room of a telecommunications company branch building in Wonju, Gangwon-do.
This installation is the first of a planned nationwide rollout across the telecom operator's regional branch buildings, each of which houses an underground wastewater treatment facility. Following two pilot installations, the program is expected to expand further based on results.
The work was carried out under Article 618 of Korea's Occupational Safety and Health Standards, which requires gas concentration monitoring in confined spaces to prevent worker asphyxiation accidents.
Equipment installed:
- FIX800 fixed multi/single-gas detector — configurable with a dual CO/H2S sensor, allowing simultaneous measurement of all five gases required by law (O2, CO, H2S, EX, CO2) from a single unit.
- FIX-DS dedicated monitoring display — a high-visibility LED status board paired with the FIX800, custom-built to the same specification as the detector.
Installation process: Before work began, technicians measured the confined space's internal atmosphere using a MINIMAX X4 gas detector provided by the facility manager, confirming an oxygen level of 20.5% — slightly low but within a safe range for entry. A safety barrier was set up to restrict access to authorized personnel only. Cabling was run using waterproof corrugated conduit, shielded power and communication lines, and a junction box positioned to conceal the wall penetration point. Power was drawn from a spare outlet inside the facility's electrical panel due to the absence of an available spare breaker.
After installation, the team verified normal communication between the detector and display board, performed an alarm test using calibration gas, and provided the facility manager with training on system operation, maintenance, and sensor calibration intervals. A contact card was affixed to the underside of the display board for future service requests.
RS Korea continues to provide nationwide demonstration, delivery, and installation services for fixed gas detection systems.
