Septic tanks and wastewater treatment facilities have many confined spaces (manholes, tanks, etc.), so measuring and managing oxygen levels is essential to prevent oxygen deficiency or exposure to hazardous gases inside.

Oxygen Concentration Measurement Guidelines

1. Before work
Oxygen (O₂) concentration must be measured before entering the inside of a septic tank.
Work is permitted only when the level is 19.5% or higher.
Measuring hazardous gases (H₂S, LEL, etc.) at the same time is also recommended.

2. Measurement points
Measure at the top, middle, and bottom, since gases can separate by layer depending on their weight.
In septic tanks or wastewater tanks without ventilation, the concentration difference between layers can be large.

3. Measuring equipment
Use an oxygen concentration meter or a multi-gas detector (O₂, H₂S, LEL, etc.). KCs-certified equipment is recommended.
A pump-suction type meter allows the internal air to be sampled safely from a distance.

4. Continuous monitoring during work
The alarm activates when the oxygen concentration changes. If an oxygen-deficiency alarm sounds, work must stop immediately and workers must evacuate.

Always ventilate before and after work in a confined space.
Check and calibrate the gas detector before work.
Follow the two-person work rule (assign a safety watcher).
Install an oxygen concentration status board to share status in real time.
Recording and keeping gas measurement results is mandatory.
