Project Details

FIX800 Fixed Gas Detector — Golf Course Wastewater Treatment Facility (Busan)

Hello from Raymond Korea. This case covers the installation of a FIX800 fixed gas detector at a golf course wastewater treatment facility.

Wastewater Treatment Facilities — Confined Space H₂S Hazard from Sludge

Wastewater treatment facilities are one of the most common types of confined spaces. Septic tanks and wastewater treatment plants are similar — sludge decomposition can cause hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) concentrations to rise significantly. In accordance with Korea's OSHA, O₂, H₂S, CO, and CO₂ concentrations must be verified before confined-space entry, and access must be prohibited with appropriate safety measures taken if thresholds are exceeded.

The detector is installed inside the treatment facility, while the display board at the entrance allows personnel outside to monitor internal conditions in real time and respond before entering.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. Why can gas incidents occur at golf course wastewater treatment facilities?

Golf course wastewater facilities collect organic matter from course maintenance operations, shower facilities, and similar sources. Decomposition generates H₂S, CH₄, NH₃, and consumes oxygen. High summer temperatures accelerate fermentation, causing gas concentrations to rise rapidly — making these facilities particularly hazardous during warm months.

Q2. Why must CO₂ also be monitored at wastewater treatment facilities?

CO₂ is generated continuously by organic decomposition and anaerobic fermentation. As CO₂ accumulates, it displaces oxygen — creating oxygen-deficiency conditions indirectly. CO₂ is colorless and odorless, making it impossible to detect without instrumentation before hazardous levels are reached.

Q3. Why can the FIX_DS display board be custom-manufactured?

Each site has different gas types, channel counts, installation positions, and display requirements. A custom display board allows gas names, units, alarm thresholds, and facility identification to be configured exactly as needed — making the monitoring interface immediately intuitive for on-site personnel.

Q4. How are two floor locations consolidated on a single display board?

FIX800 supports RS-485 communication. Both detectors are connected to the same RS-485 bus, and the display board sequentially polls each unit by address — displaying readings from all measurement points simultaneously on a single screen.

Q5. Why is an entrance-mounted display board critical for safety management?

The most dangerous moment is when workers enter a confined space without knowing internal gas conditions. An entrance display board allows anyone to verify internal concentrations from outside before entry. If hazardous readings are displayed, entry is suspended immediately and ventilation is initiated — preventing incidents before they occur.
