This case study covers the delivery of a GasTiger 2000 portable multi-gas detector to a semiconductor component manufacturer in Pyeongtaek, along with on-site operator training.

The GasTiger 2000 supplied for this project can be configured with cost-effective, customizable gas sensors at the time of purchase. The customer requested this unit specifically to monitor arsine (AsH₃) gas, which can be released during the disassembly of semiconductor components, and also requested training on how to use the device.

Arsenic is a highly toxic substance classified as a Group 1 carcinogen, sometimes referred to as the "king of poisons." It is also used as a compound in pesticides, rodenticides, and agricultural chemicals.

Arsenic is widely used in the semiconductor industry, and arsenic-lead compounds are also used in automotive batteries, among other applications. Because semiconductor industry workers are often directly or indirectly present in environments where arsenic compounds are used, the risk of arsenic poisoning increases significantly without proper equipment and safety measures. Continued exposure while already affected raises the likelihood of a serious incident.

When first powered on, the multi-gas detector requires roughly one minute for sensor warm-up before it can measure gas accurately. We recommend powering the unit on ahead of time so the sensors are warmed up before use on site.

After powering on the unit, we checked the reading immediately. Since the office where this check was performed has no AsH₃ present, the reading correctly measured 0 ppm.

This is the semiconductor factory where the unit was delivered. We provide free product training upon request, so alongside this delivery, we conducted hands-on training directly for the staff who would be using the device. As noted above, arsenic is a Group 1 carcinogen, so it was important for semiconductor workers to fully understand how to use the gas detector correctly to help prevent arsenic poisoning.
