Hello, this is RS Korea. Today, I would like to tell you about the installation I went to in Hongcheon, Gangwon-do. The facility is an environmental management facility that processes various impurities such as livestock waste and food.

■ Installation products

This is the FIX800, an installation-type gas meter from WANDI, a gas meter specialist brand. With one meter, up to 5 gases can be installed in accordance with the Occupational Safety and Health Act. The photo on the left shows a single gas installation, and the photo on the right shows a combined gas installation.

※ Please refer to the photo above. The display of Wandi Fix 800 varies depending on the number of gases installed. Of the 40 different gases, from a single gas to a maximum of 5 gases can be installed when dual sensors are installed, and the installed gases are displayed at the same time as they are measured, allowing you to check the measured values ​​in real time. In addition, when connected to an optional electronic signboard or PLC, you can see the measured values ​​​​in real time from outside, so you can respond immediately with an alarm in case of danger. The place visited for this installation is a public institution that manages and processes various environments. It is a facility that processes various contaminants such as livestock manure, food, and sediment. Although ventilation is continuously provided during the treatment process, we visited the environment to inquire about installing a gas meter for the purpose of worker safety in an environment where harmful gases with foul odor are constantly generated. ■ Accident case

Please refer to the image above. The disaster incident in question is a case of an accident that occurred while disposing of impurities. The causes of the disaster are believed to be four reasons: the tank that was to be managed after being designated as a confined space was not designated and managed; non-issuance of a work permit; no record of measuring the concentration of harmful gases; non-implementation of a ban on entry except for workers; non-deployment of inspectors; the air quality inside the tank was 74 ppm, 7.4 times the hydrogen sulfide exposure standard of 10 ppm. Detected, carbon monoxide was measured at 23ppm, and oxygen concentration was measured at 19.9%Vol.

To prevent such disasters from occurring, measures must be taken to place a monitor and prohibit entry by anyone other than workers, and measure gas concentration and manage the value in places where the air quality exceeds the appropriate level or where harmful gases are generated. ■ Installation points There are a total of four installation points for the measuring instrument, and one installation point for the electric sign. The gas measuring instrument is equipped with two gases, H2S (hydrogen sulfide) and CO (carbon monoxide), which are gases generated during the treatment process, and can interfere with gas measurement. The pretreatment device was configured in an environment with high humidity, which is an environmental factor. Installation point 1: General treatment room

 The first installation point is the 'Comprehensive Processing Machine Room'. It is a space with a conveyor that transports food from the loading area to the processing facility, and a shredding separator. Although it is a sealed screw conveyor belt, it is a place with the first sorting process and a comprehensive waste processing machine located close to the loading dock, and it was an environment where bad odors were generated due to inspection and cleaning of the screw conveyor. A measuring instrument was installed on the wall located on the side of the screw conveyor, which is where the most bad smells occur. It is planned. Installation point 2: Automatic shredding and sorting machine room

The second installation point is the 'Automatic Shredder Room'. This is a space where various environmental contaminants classified in the general processor room are shredded. Like the waste disposal room, it was an environment where bad odors were generated, and a measuring device is planned to be installed on the wall located close to the conveyor. Installation point 3: Incoming storage tank.

The third installation point is the 'importation storage tank'. What is a storage tank? It refers to a facility that can separate more than 80% of solids from sediment, livestock manure, food, etc. discharged from various environments. Simply put, it is one of the processes for treating sediment. The treatment process is concentration - digestion - dehydration - landfill or dumping on the open sea. As one of the processing processes, dehydrated sludge is generated to the extent that it can be treated as solid in the storage tank, and it is a space where dewatering cake, which is sludge with a moisture content of 85% or less, is created. Similar to the installation point above, it is a foul-smelling environment and measures the concentration of hydrogen sulfide (H2S), a gas generated during the decomposition of sludge (sediment). For this purpose, a measuring instrument is planned to be installed on the wall near the pulper mixing tank. Installation point 4: Digester supply pump room

The last installation point is the 'Digester Supply Pump Room'. This is the space where the pump that transfers the concentrated sludge from the storage tank to the digester is located. It is located underground, so the ceiling was composed of grating rather than a completely sealed space for ventilation. However, as with other installation points, a measuring device is planned to be installed on the wall as it is an environment that generates odor. You may have the illusion that you are seeing an electronic display board, but please look at it with bleary eyes. We wanted to be able to check the status board in real time inside the office by gathering the measured values ​​of each measuring instrument installed, so we created an 8-channel electronic display board. It is scheduled to be installed on the wall of the central control room located on the 3rd floor.■ Installation

In the case of the gas concentration status board, it is necessary to move three floors from the digester supply pump room, which is installation point number 4, to the central control room. The work of sending power and communication lines through the cable tray on the ceiling of the compressor room on the first floor was carried out using a gas cable, and there was work at heights. ■ Installation completed General processing equipment room

Flexible wires were used to protect the externally exposed power and communication wires, and the installation of the measuring instrument and electronic display board was completed. The installation work was completed after the alarm test, trial run, and product information. In a gas measuring environment, when you do not know the gas generated, or when you know the gas generated but cannot confirm the exact concentration, it is difficult to make a choice before purchasing.
