Hello, this is RS Korea. Today, I am going to post about the installation work I went to a place located in the metropolitan area. The facility is a combined heat and power plant that produces electricity and heat at the same time. 

Combined heat and power plant ■ Installation product This is FIX800, an installation type gas meter from WANDI, a brand specializing in gas meters.

With one meter, it is possible to install five safety gases (O2, CO, H2S, LEL, CO2) according to the Occupational Safety and Health Act. Please refer to the photo above. The photo on the left shows when a single gas is installed, and the photo on the right shows when a combined gas is installed. 

You can see that the size of the air chamber at the bottom is different. If you look at the measuring part, single gas has one measuring part, so the air chamber is thin, while composite gas has two or more measuring parts, so the air chamber is thicker.

Wandi Fix 800 has different air chambers depending on whether the installed gas is single or combined. This also applies to the display. From a list of over 40 gases, from a single gas to a maximum of 5 gases can be installed when dual sensors are installed, and the installed gases are displayed at the same time as they are measured, allowing you to check the measured values ​​in real time. This is data reported by the Ministry of Employment and Labor in 2022 on the fatality rate from suffocation accidents in confined spaces. According to the data, as many as 348 people have died or been injured due to 'suffocation accidents' in confined spaces over the past 10 years. In one accident, half of them died (47.4%), which provides evidence that 1 in 2 people may die from suffocation accidents in confined spaces. Compared to the fatality rate of general accidental disasters, it is 44 times higher, and “confined space asphyxiation” is more likely to lead to death than a fall or electric shock disaster.

Among them, the most dangerous work is wastewater treatment, septic tank, and livestock waste treatment work. The cause was hydrogen sulfide poisoning and oxygen deficiency. Before working in a confined space, be sure to measure the oxygen concentration and hazardous gas concentration before entering in an environment where hazardous gases are generated to ensure the safety of workers. ■ Installation environment / Points● Installation environment

This installation environment is an enclosed space. It is a wastewater treatment plant that simultaneously produces electricity and heat, collects and stores wastewater generated from cleaning, and discharges it with a pump when it collects more than a certain amount. It was a little different from the wastewater treatment plants that had been inspected and installed so far. It was simply a space for storing and discharging water generated during electricity and heat production at power plants, so there was no bad smell because there was no separate process. Because the generated water was not reused, it was called simple wastewater, and it was a facility that stored and discharged the water. Considering the fact that there was no separate process, no odor, and the environmental characteristics of closed spaces, we installed an oxygen concentration meter for worker safety and installed an electronic signboard to check the measured value in real time from outside.● Installation points

This is the point of installing the electronic sign. The entrance to the wastewater treatment plant is located on the ground level. As you can see, the wastewater treatment plant is located underground. 

Since we have not yet installed the measuring device, we open the entrance to the wastewater treatment plant, measure it with a portable measuring device, provide sufficient ventilation, and then enter the basement.

First, fix the bracket to set up the measuring instrument, place the power cable and communication cable inside the waterproof corrugated pipe, and then secure them with the saddle. 

Power was taken from a 220V outlet inside the wastewater treatment plant. 

The electronic signboard is scheduled to be installed on the side wall outside the entrance to the wastewater treatment plant. After determining the location of the electric signboard, basically, the electric signboard has a waterproof function, so no special treatment was done, and the power and communication lines coming out of the signboard were protected using GW flexible. The wires entering the treatment plant from the outside were caulked.■ Installation completed● Installation of measuring instruments inside the wastewater treatment plant completed.

All communication and power lines exposed to the outdoors were protected using flexible cables, and the space between the meter and the display board was neatly fixed with saddle work and organized using a junction box. Installation of both the gas meter and the display board was completed without any problems. The installation work was completed after alarm and warning tests, test runs, and product information. In a gas measurement environment, if you do not know the gas generated, or if you know the gas generated but cannot confirm the exact concentration, prior to purchase. It is difficult to make a choice. The way to be safe is to purchase a gas meter with an accurate measurement range by considering everything such as environmental factors, generated gas, frequency, and concentration through sufficient consultation with experts.
