Installed Gases
Project Details
RS Korea returned to a telecommunications company branch building in Wonju, Gangwon-do to complete an additional FIX800 five-gas detector installation, one level further underground than a previous project at the same site, following the client's satisfaction with earlier installations at both the Wonju and Dongjak-gu branches.
Purpose
This installation continues to satisfy Article 618 of Korea's Occupational Safety and Health Standards, requiring monitoring of five gases — O2, CO, CO2, H2S, and EX — in confined spaces to prevent worker asphyxiation.

Equipment

The equipment planned for installation was RS Korea's steady-selling FIX800 fixed multi-gas detector, capable of simultaneously measuring all five legally required gases, paired with a custom-built LED status board so gas concentration can be monitored from both inside and outside the workspace.
Installation Location

The installation location was a diesel storage tank room. Diesel is a flammable liquid, and when it evaporates it becomes an explosive-hazard gas; in spaces with inadequate ventilation, a buildup of combustible gas can create an asphyxiation risk. The detector was mounted at the deepest point of the tank room, and the display board was installed directly above the entrance.
Before Installation

A short but thorough toolbox meeting (TBM) was carried out. The team briefed the equipment to be installed, set up a safety sign board, and ran a blower to ventilate the space — a minor incident during a safety-installation project would be especially unfortunate.

Before starting work, a portable IoT gas detector, the EDW500, was used to confirm the atmosphere was safe. The unit was then left on site, allowing gas conditions to be checked remotely via mobile device or web browser for reporting purposes.
During Installation

The display board was installed first, with ladder work always carried out by a two-person team. The detector was then installed in a notably cramped space due to the tank's footprint; the corner location received little natural light, so work lighting was used throughout — essential in any environment where floor obstructions or other hazards could otherwise cause an accident.

Cable runs used waterproof corrugated conduit. Elevated work above a certain height requires a safety ladder and a harness at all times.
After Installation

Commissioning was carried out by introducing calibration gas to force an alarm condition, confirming that both the internal and external alarms activate simultaneously so workers can evacuate quickly in an emergency.
Closing

The detector installed at this facility's original wastewater treatment room last year continues to operate normally, and this additional installation was completed successfully.
