Hello. Today's site is a department store.

Working in gas detector sales, we're reminded of just how many different industries rely on this equipment. Department stores, outlet malls, museums, broadcasting stations, and many other environments all require gas measurement.

That also means the risk of gas-related accidents exists in a wide range of places. Department stores contain a number of hazardous confined spaces as well, so let's take a look at them one by one.

The first space is the fire-suppression gas room. Department stores are large shopping facilities used by hundreds or thousands of people every day, and because they are especially vulnerable to casualties in the event of a fire, most use carbon dioxide as an asphyxiation-type fire-suppression agent.

Under the Occupational Safety and Health Act, facilities using carbon dioxide extinguishing agents are required to install oxygen or carbon dioxide detectors in both the agent storage room and the protected zone where the agent is discharged, and to post warning signage on the exterior at all times indicating that hazardous gas is present inside.

Next are the water tank room and the wastewater treatment room.

In the water tank room, the greatest hazard is that gas-related accidents frequently occur when cleaning personnel enter the tank. For this reason, an oxygen concentration monitor and a display panel were installed to measure oxygen levels in real time for the purpose of preventing asphyxiation accidents.

Finally, there is the septic tank. Compared to the fire-suppression gas room or the wastewater treatment room, the septic tank has a much harsher environment with a strong odor.

On-site workers are often reluctant to enter it for this reason, and it is also where gas accidents occur most frequently. For this site's septic tank and wastewater treatment room, we installed a FIX800 fixed-type gas detector equipped with all four sensors: O2, CO, H2S, and LEL.

O2 (oxygen), CO (carbon monoxide), H2S (hydrogen sulfide), and LEL (combustible gas) are also the four gases that the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency requires to be measured during confined-space work.

This concludes our introduction to this department store installation case.

Thank you.

What gas detectors were installed in this department store case?

A FIX800 fixed-type gas detector was installed in the septic tank and wastewater treatment room, equipped with all four sensors: O2 (oxygen), CO (carbon monoxide), H2S (hydrogen sulfide), and LEL (combustible gas).

Why do fire-suppression gas rooms need oxygen or carbon dioxide detectors?

Under the Occupational Safety and Health Act, facilities using carbon dioxide extinguishing agents must install oxygen or carbon dioxide detectors in both the agent storage room and the protected discharge zone, and must post warning signage on the exterior at all times.

What measures were taken in the water tank room?

An oxygen concentration monitor and a display panel were installed to continuously measure oxygen levels in real time, helping to prevent asphyxiation accidents among cleaning personnel who enter the tank.

Which gases must be measured during confined-space work?

Per Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency requirements, O2 (oxygen), CO (carbon monoxide), H2S (hydrogen sulfide), and LEL (combustible gas) are the four essential gases that must be measured during confined-space work.

Where was this installation located?

This installation was carried out at a department store in Suwon, Gyeonggi-do.
