This time we visited an energy management facility — a type of infrastructure that has become essential in modern society for using energy efficiently, reducing costs, and minimizing environmental impact.
This facility processes household waste collected from a local area and recovers thermal energy from it, using a range of equipment. To help protect the managers and workers who operate this equipment from gas poisoning, gas leaks, and asphyxiation accidents, we installed gas concentration detectors on site.
Inquiry
Consultation request: While the incineration facility was in operation, the customer requested the installation of the FIX800 fixed-type gas detector in confined spaces within the facility, such as the electrical room and turbine generator room.
On-site meeting requests:
- Confirm installation locations for the fixed-type gas detector, the display panel, and the wireless data communication equipment.
- Hold an on-site meeting to introduce the products.
- Conduct an on-site survey to confirm accurate costs.
To carry out these three steps, we made a first visit before installation to introduce the products and roughly determine the installation locations. We also checked all communication lines needed to connect the gas detectors on floors 1 through 3 to the wireless data communication equipment in the 3rd-floor control room, and the meeting concluded there.
Products Installed
1. Indoor safety check — fixed-type gas detector FIX800
The FIX800 can be customized with 4 to 5 gas sensors as needed, covering everything from the five gases required for confined spaces under the Occupational Safety and Health Act to toxic and other gases relevant to a given site.
It supports 4-20mA and RS485 signal output, so it can also integrate with an existing PLC. RS485 is mainly used here for the display panel and wireless data communication.
2. Checking conditions from outside in advance — display panel
This is the external display panel commonly paired with the FIX800. Since it can receive both RS485 and 4-20mA signals, it installs well in almost any environment.
Because readings can be checked from outside before entering the space where the detector is installed, it helps ensure safety. In an empty space, an alarm from the detector itself might go unheard, but the connected display panel can also sound an alarm, allowing for a quick response if something goes wrong.
3. Easier management for wireless data communication — FIX-AP
FIX-AP links with the detectors to collect data, sends it to a cloud server, and lets users monitor gas concentration, collect data, and receive alarms for abnormal readings from a PC, mobile phone, or tablet.
- For a WiFi connection: a strong signal (4 bars) on a 2.4GHz network is required.
- For a LAN connection: for an external network, confirm internet access is available; for an internal network, confirm response and security testing.

Installation
Since this was not a space used by our team alone, all equipment and materials were kept to one side, leaving plenty of room for passage, so the work could proceed considerately of others on site.
The display panels were positioned so they would be immediately visible upon exiting the elevator. Because the readings are shown on an LED module, they cannot be missed while passing by.
The gas detectors were installed at the entrances where managers would first encounter the interior air, so readings could be checked before entry.
To connect the communication lines from the FIX800 gas detectors on floors 1-3 to the wireless data communication module, we opened up flooring and cable trays as needed, and once all the lines were gathered, we neatly organized them using a steel enclosure.
After installing, setting up, and running the wireless data communication equipment, everything turned green after a short wait, confirming a successful connection. Since we had to open trays, ceilings, and floors throughout to run the connections, it would have been very difficult to trace a fault if the wiring had gone wrong anywhere, so getting a successful connection on the first try was a genuine relief.
After confirming the readings were coming in correctly through this setup, we walked around to check that the display panels were also receiving data properly.
After confirming that the display panels were also showing correct readings, we contacted the facility manager, showed them the installation status of the gas detectors and display panels, and demonstrated the FIX-AP DCMS cloud server on a laptop to complete the installation.
