What Is a Confined Space?
A confined space is any space that lacks adequate ventilation or has no ventilation openings such as vents or windows. In such environments, a gas leak can cause oxygen concentration to drop rapidly, creating a serious risk of asphyxiation.
For this reason, the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency recommends that gas and oxygen concentrations be measured inside confined spaces before entry or work begins.
FIX800 Oxygen Detector with LED Display Board
The FIX800 oxygen detector measures and displays real-time oxygen concentration as soon as power is applied. When oxygen falls below the user-configured threshold, the side-mounted beacon triggers audible and visual alarms.
Most customers install the oxygen detector inside the confined space and pair it with an LED display board outside to show the internal oxygen concentration in real time.
With an LED display board at the confined-space entrance, workers can check internal oxygen levels before entry. This helps prevent asphyxiation incidents and allows continuous real-time monitoring from outside the space for safer site management.
Installation Notes
Gas detector installation typically uses surface-mounted exposed conduit, which keeps the process straightforward. A preliminary site visit, however, is required to accurately determine the necessary materials and installation cost.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q1. What is a confined space?
It is any space lacking ventilation or ventilation openings such as vents or windows, where a gas leak can sharply reduce oxygen and create a risk of asphyxiation.
Q2. Is oxygen measurement required before entering a confined space?
Yes. The Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency recommends measuring internal gas and oxygen concentrations before any confined-space work or entry.
Q3. What are the benefits of the LED display board monitoring system?
Workers can check oxygen levels at the entrance before entry, and the site can be monitored in real time from outside, supporting safer workplace management.
Q4. Is the installation complex?
It is generally straightforward, using exposed conduit. A preliminary site visit is required to determine the correct materials and installation cost.
