Equipment Maintenance and Calibration Overview

VPE supplies measurement and analysis equipment to a wide range of industrial sites. The GasTiger 2000 is used not only for toxic and hazardous gas measurement but also for confined-space safety.

Caution When Using the Calibration Button

Dozens of units are sold each month, and hardware failures are rare. However, because these are gas measurement instruments, readings can occasionally drift if the calibration button is pressed by mistake.

* Please coordinate with a specialist before pressing the calibration button. *

Power Plant Site Inspection

As plant safety equipment, these instruments are often used to measure gas in harsh conditions. This unit was in use at a power plant site, where dust had heavily accumulated around the inlet.

The O2 (oxygen) reading was below the 20.9% ambient reference, and while CO (carbon monoxide) registered around 1 ppm, the value dropped back to 0 ppm within a few seconds.

Span-Gas Calibration

Certified span gas is used to calibrate readings accurately.

Span-gas calibration

For confined-space safety, measuring the four gases against the span-gas reference concentrations is essential.

★ Safety first ★

Four-gas span calibration

The GasTiger 2000's powerful 0.8 L/min pump draws in the span gas during calibration, and the readings can be checked after about eight minutes.

GasTiger 2000 span-gas calibration

The span-gas reference values and the GasTiger 2000 readings matched at 99.9%.

Ex (Combustible Gas) LEL Reading

For Ex (combustible gas), the GasTiger 2000 displays values in %LEL. Since methane's (CH4) lower explosive limit of 5% vol is set as 100% LEL, a reading of 50% LEL is the correct value when using the methane span blend.

We also provide inspection, maintenance, and calibration services for gas measurement equipment, as well as KOLAS calibration certificate processing.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1. Why is gas detector calibration necessary?

Readings can drift — for example, if the calibration button is pressed by mistake — so span gas is used to recalibrate and maintain accuracy. We recommend using the calibration button only after consulting a specialist.

Q2. How is span-gas calibration performed?

The GasTiger 2000's 0.8 L/min pump draws in span gas to calibrate the readings, which are checked after about eight minutes. In this case, the span-gas values and the readings matched at 99.9%.

Q3. Which gases are measured for confined-space safety?

The four gases against the span-gas reference concentrations — here EX, O2, CO, and H2S — must be measured.

Q4. Do you support maintenance and KOLAS certification?

Yes. We provide inspection, maintenance, and calibration services for gas measurement equipment, along with KOLAS calibration certificate processing.
