Nitric oxide (NO) is a colorless, odorless toxic gas inevitably generated during combustion. Continuous exposure risks exist in tunnel excavation sites, thermal power plants, nitric acid manufacturing facilities, and areas with vehicle exhaust. In the body, NO rapidly oxidizes to nitrogen dioxide (NO₂), causing compounded damage to the respiratory system and blood. The WANDI FIX800 fixed multi-gas detector simultaneously monitors up to 5 gases including NO, issuing early alarms from the initial stage of leakage and protecting workers around the clock.
What Is Nitric Oxide (NO)?
NO is formed when nitrogen and oxygen combine under high-temperature combustion conditions. At room temperature, it is colorless and odorless, poorly soluble in water, making it extremely difficult to detect by smell. In the atmosphere, it oxidizes to NO₂ within minutes — NO₂ is visible as a reddish-brown gas, but NO itself cannot be detected without instruments.
NO Health Effects and Exposure Standards
| Concentration (ppm) | Exposure Duration | Health Effects | Standard |
|---|---|---|---|
| 25 ppm | 8h TWA | Permissible limit — mild headache, respiratory irritation | ACGIH TLV-TWA / OSHA PEL |
| 35 ppm | 15 min STEL | Cough, chest pain, headache | ACGIH STEL |
| 100 ppm | Minutes | Pulmonary edema, oxygen deprivation, loss of consciousness | NIOSH |
| 100+ ppm | Short exposure | IDLH — Immediately Dangerous to Life or Health | NIOSH IDLH |
WANDI FIX800: 24/7 NO Gas Monitoring Solution
The FIX800 is permanently installed on-site and monitors NO concentration in real time from the moment power is applied. Unlike portable devices, monitoring continues during nighttime and holidays when workers are absent. Upon exceeding threshold values, immediate alarms are activated.
🔧 5-Gas Simultaneous Monitoring
The FIX800 can simultaneously monitor up to 5 gases — NO, O₂, CO, H₂S, and EX (combustible) — with a single unit. It is the optimal fixed monitoring solution for complex gas hazard environments such as tunnels, power plants, and chemical facilities.
Key Applications
- Tunnel construction: Diesel equipment generates large amounts of NO·NOx in confined spaces
- Thermal power plants: Continuous NOx emissions from fuel combustion
- Nitric acid/chemical manufacturing: Risk of NO leakage during processes
- Wastewater treatment: NO generation during biological treatment
- Plasma research facilities: NO·NO₂ generated during atmospheric plasma processing
