FIX800 H₂S/EX 3-Set Installation with Integrated Display Board — Gas Storage Facility (Jeonju)
This case covers RS Korea's full-service delivery — from order placement through installation and commissioning — of three FIX800 units configured for H₂S and EX monitoring, with a single integrated display board, at a public institution gas storage facility in Jeonju.
Worker safety training is mandatory at public institutions before any installation work begins.
After training, products and materials are organized for efficient access during the installation. The plan: install three H₂S + EX measurement units at three locations, with all readings displayed on a single external display board.
Pre-Installation Site Survey — Two Critical Points
A pre-installation site survey is the most important factor for efficient construction:
- Power source location: For this installation, spare circuit breakers in the central distribution panel are used to supply power to the display board and all three detectors.
- Display board location: All three measurement points converge at one display. Placement at the facility entrance is standard. Board location directly affects communication cable routing complexity — precise point selection matters.
Wiring — Cable Tray for a Clean Finish
Routing through an existing cable tray requires opening and closing the tray, but the result is a clean, organized finish.
For high-humidity environments such as water treatment sumps, storage tanks, and chemical storage rooms, a moisture pretreatment unit is strongly recommended. It protects electrochemical sensors from condensation damage, ensures accurate measurement, and extends sensor service life through its sealed waterproof enclosure.
Installation Complete — Functional Testing and Operator Training
Each installed unit is tested individually — power operation and gas sensor responsiveness are both verified. The FIX800 measures multiple gas types simultaneously in a single instrument. Full operator training on usage and maintenance is provided on-site.
H₂S readings are confirmed to be within the Korea OSHA exposure limit of 10 ppm. All parties expressed satisfaction with the completed installation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. Why are H₂S and EX measured simultaneously in a gas storage room?
Gas storage rooms face both toxic and explosion hazards depending on what gases are stored and how they leak. H₂S is acutely toxic at sub-ppm concentrations; EX (combustible gas) indicates explosion risk. Monitoring both simultaneously is essential for comprehensive safety management in these environments.
Q2. How are readings from three measurement points consolidated on one display board?
RS-485 multi-drop communication is used. All three detectors are connected to a single communication bus, and the display board sequentially polls each unit by address to retrieve and display all points' readings on one screen. This approach minimizes wiring while enabling full multi-point integration.
Q3. Why is the power source location so important to identify in the site survey?
The location of the distribution panel and availability of spare breakers determine cable routing paths and installation scope. A distant power source or the need for additional electrical work significantly increases cost and time. The site survey allows the most efficient routing to be planned before the installation day.
Q4. Why is moisture pretreatment required in high-humidity water treatment environments?
High humidity causes condensation inside electrochemical sensors — leading to inaccurate readings, malfunction, and shortened sensor life. A moisture pretreatment unit removes water vapor from the sample gas before it reaches the sensor, ensuring measurement accuracy and protecting the sensor from moisture damage.
Q5. What does operator training typically cover for fixed gas detectors?
Fixed detectors require minimal day-to-day operation once installed. Training covers: how to verify normal operation, response procedures when alarms activate, routine maintenance checks (sensor condition, filter replacement intervals), and calibration schedule and method. This training ensures the system operates reliably throughout its service life.
