Project Details
Hello. This is RS Korea. Today we are sharing a recent installation of the FIX800 gas detector in Pohang. This project involved two related but slightly different types of installation carried out at a single site. Thank you for your interest.
Installation overview
Site: Pohang City Sewage Sludge Recycling Facility
Installation points and equipment:
- Sludge intake area: FIX800 (O2, H2S, EX), 1 set, with an outdoor status board
- Dried sludge storage tank: FIX800 (CO), with high-grade pre-treatment equipment and a self-supporting status board
Schedule: installed by two two-person teams in a single day
Before describing the installation, here is a brief background on what a sewage sludge recycling facility is.

Put simply, sewage sludge is the combined food wastewater that drains from household sinks. A facility that processes this collected sludge through several stages to recover it as a resource is called a sewage resource recovery facility.

The two points we installed equipment at this time are the locations circled in the image above.
1. Sludge intake area: after the intake process is completed, the shutter is lowered, turning this area into an enclosed space that is also filled with odor and explosive gas risk. A gas detector was installed here for the safety of workers entering the space.

2. Dried-goods storage: this is the warehouse where the heat-treated dried material from the intake area is stored. The green urethane floor covers what is effectively one large tank. Flammable gases such as methane, generated from the dried sludge just before recycling, can ignite even from a small spark, so we installed a detector for CO, a representative combustion gas, to prepare for this fire risk.

Because the installation points and power-supply method had already been agreed in several preliminary meetings, the work itself went smoothly on installation day.



After completing safety training, the installation plan and sequence were briefed to the construction team and the site manager. The team then split into two two-person groups to carry out installation at both locations simultaneously.
1. Multi-gas detector installation at the sludge intake area



1. After drilling into the concrete wall, the display board was installed first.
2. For power, the outlet originally used for the exhaust fan behind the wall was converted from a single outlet to a dual outlet, leaving a spare connection.
3. The detector was installed and the cable length was measured and cut.



4. The cut cable ends were then terminated.
5. The cabling was neatly secured with cable saddles so as not to interfere with the existing facilities.
6. Finally, the display board and the FIX800 were connected to complete the installation.



7. Once powered on, the detector displayed normal readings.
8. The outdoor status board also showed a normal (green) status.
9. An alarm test was carried out by introducing test gas, completing the installation cleanly.
2. CO detector installation at the dried sludge storage tank
(This location required a self-supporting stainless enclosure and pre-treatment equipment, so anchor work was carried out first.)



1. Holes were drilled with a hammer drill to match the anchor bolt length.
2. The drilled area and surrounding dust were cleaned.
3. The waterproof coating around the drilled area, which can lift during drilling, was re-sealed.



4. The anchors were installed and leveled.
5. Piping was installed to connect the gas in/out hoses to the front (positive pressure) and rear (negative pressure) sides of the blower; these ports had already been welded in place as agreed during the earlier meetings.
6. The pre-installed 220V power line and 4-20mA signal line were wired. Because the schedule did not align with the electrical team, permanent power was not available immediately, so a temporary test run was carried out using an auxiliary battery.



7. A durable PTFE hose was connected to the completed piping.
8. Product training and usage guidance were provided to the person in charge.
9. And here is the finished installation. After this photo was taken, the conduit and gas line were tidied with cable ties, though unfortunately no photo was taken of that final step.
This project involved two slightly different types of installation carried out simultaneously at one site. Because all the details had already been coordinated in advance through a site survey and several meetings, the actual installation work was completed very simply — a good reminder of how valuable thorough preparation is.
