Waste-Handling Facility Confined-Space Gas Monitor Installation — FIX800 & FIX-DS

This is an installation case of a FIX800 five-gas monitor and FIX-DS status board for gas measurement and monitoring in a vulnerable area designated as a confined space inside a waste-handling facility.

Gas monitor installation in a waste-handling confined space

This waste-handling facility is located in the basement of a large office building in central Seoul. Because workers are stationed in this area, which is designated as a confined space, gas monitoring equipment was installed to prevent asphyxiation accidents.

The FIX-DS gas display board is installed where workers can intuitively check it, so they can prepare for any potential accident.

The FIX800 multi-gas monitor is installed inside the confined space so that, if low oxygen or gas is detected, an alarm activates to let workers quickly recognize the danger.

Gas leak monitoring installation

Communication between the gas monitor and the display board uses an RS-485 signal, and the display board supplies DC 24V power to the monitor.

This is the commissioning after installation was completed. Standard gas was used to test response and accuracy.

O₂ (Oxygen) — Asphyxiation risk if deficient — Dangerous below 18.5%

H₂S (Hydrogen sulfide) — Highly toxic; harmful to the human body even at low concentrations — Dangerous above 10 ppm

CO (Carbon monoxide) — Colorless, odorless, interferes with oxygen binding — Dangerous above 50 ppm

EX (CH₄, combustible gas) — Explosion risk — Dangerous above 5% of the lower explosive limit (LEL)

CO₂ (Carbon dioxide) — Can cause asphyxiation at high concentrations — Dangerous above 5,000 ppm

Standard gas was injected into the gas monitoring equipment installed inside the confined space to carry out the test.
