Hello. Today we're sharing an installation project that was especially memorable this year: a WANDI FIX800 gas detection system installed at the Automobile Fuel Efficiency Center of the Korea Energy Agency.

This was not a simple equipment delivery. The project began with a site review in April, covering installation environment assessment, equipment selection, piping and installation planning, system setup, commissioning, and final testing — with all work completed by July. Because the plan required multiple rounds of on-site coordination, the project took considerably longer than a typical installation.

Why this installation differed from a standard setup

Fixed gas detectors are usually installed directly at locations where a gas leak may occur. In this case, however, the site was a test facility that required explosion-proof conditions. Instead of installing the detector directly on site, a suction (sampling) system was used: air is drawn in through sampling piping and analyzed in a separate pre-treatment enclosure.

Commissioning after installation

Installing a fixed gas detector is not the end of the process — commissioning is required to confirm that air is being drawn in correctly, that the detector is measuring properly, that alarms trigger as expected, and that the display and overall system are properly linked. Every item was checked in sequence at this site.

Function testing with actual gas

During commissioning, detection performance was verified using actual test gas. Air drawn in on site travels through the sampling piping to the pre-treatment enclosure, where the WANDI FIX800 installed inside analyzes the gas. After installation, the test was repeated multiple times to confirm stable operation.

Gas was detected in approximately 10 seconds. After the test gas was injected, the FIX800 detected it in about 10 seconds. Even though this was a suction-type system with the pre-treatment enclosure located in a separate space, the response speed was in line with expectations. Response time can vary depending on the sampling pipe length, pump flow rate, installation environment, and target gas. At this site, sampling pipe lengths ranged from roughly 20 to 50 meters depending on sensor location, and even at the 50-meter benchmark, gas was detected in about 10 seconds — which is why site-specific design and commissioning are so important.

Ongoing management matters after installation

A fixed gas detector's job isn't finished once it's installed. Because sensor performance can change over time, regular inspection and calibration are essential to maintaining accuracy. Our team provides one-stop support covering product supply, installation, commissioning, calibration, and ongoing maintenance.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Why was a sampling (suction) system used instead of a directly installed detector?

The site was a test facility that required explosion-proof conditions, so instead of installing the detector directly at the leak-prone location, air was drawn in through sampling piping and analyzed in a separate pre-treatment enclosure.

How long did the project take?

The project spanned about four months, from an initial site review in April through installation, commissioning, and final testing completed in July.

How fast did the system detect gas during testing?

During function testing with actual gas, the WANDI FIX800 detected the gas in approximately 10 seconds, even at the longest sampling pipe run of about 50 meters.

What factors affect detection response time in a sampling system?

Response time depends on the sampling pipe length, pump flow rate, installation environment, and the target gas, which is why site-specific design and commissioning are important.

Does the work end once the detector is installed?

No. Sensor performance can change over time, so regular inspection and calibration are needed to maintain measurement accuracy after installation.
