Hello, this is RS Korea.
Today's post is a site survey for installing a FIX800 O2 detector and display board in a nitrogen storage tank room.

This is a company located in Gyeonggi-do. We visited after receiving an inquiry to survey the installation of a fixed-type FIX800 O2 detector and display board to prevent asphyxiation accidents in the nitrogen storage tank room of a food research institute.

This is WANDI's fixed-type gas detector, the FIX800, shown here with an optional warning light.
It can be configured from a single gas up to five gases simultaneously, with simultaneous measurement and display. While an adapter is provided as standard, it can also be powered via DC24V, making it suitable for environments that require 24-hour gas monitoring. It can also be connected to a display board or PLC, allowing readings to be checked and logged in real time from outside the room or from an office.

As mentioned, WANDI's FIX800 can be configured from a single gas up to five gases. The housing is the same across configurations, and only the sensor changes depending on the application. Since today's survey request is similar to these cases, we've shown a few reference photos of single-oxygen configurations paired with an external display board.
What is air? Air is the colorless, odorless, transparent gas that makes up the lower layer of the atmosphere surrounding the Earth. It is composed mainly of oxygen and nitrogen in roughly a 1:4 ratio, with small amounts of inert gases and carbon dioxide.
By volume, air consists of about 78% nitrogen (N2), 20.9% oxygen (O2), 0.03% carbon dioxide (CO2), and the remaining 1% other gases. An asphyxiation accident can occur if the oxygen level within this mixture drops too low.
To prevent asphyxiation, a portable gas detector is typically used to check conditions before entering a confined space. However, in spaces where gas is stored and managed on an ongoing basis, a fixed gas detector must be installed and its readings continuously monitored to prevent asphyxiation, poisoning, and fatal accidents — because a leak alone can be enough to cause a fatal asphyxiation accident.

This is the FIX800 installation point. To the left of the display board installation point in the photo, there is a fixed ladder leading downward. Going down that ladder leads to the FIX800 installation point in front of the nitrogen storage tank.

FIX800 installation height: the client requested 1.5m, at eye level.

There are two power supply points in total: where the cable runs through, and where the 220V outlet is located.
Since the distance from the installation point to the display board is not far, the cable run is expected to be short, and with dedicated wiring and an outlet already available, power supply should not be an issue.

Q1. Why does this nitrogen storage tank room need an oxygen detector?
Nitrogen can displace oxygen in a confined space, and since air is normally about 20.9% oxygen, any drop below the safe threshold creates an asphyxiation risk — so an O2 detector is installed to continuously monitor the space.
Q2. What is the measurement range of the FIX800 O2 sensor used here?
The unit surveyed for this site measures oxygen concentration from 0–30%, suitable for confined-space asphyxiation-risk monitoring.
Q3. Why was the display board installation point explained before the detector location?
Because the FIX800 is installed below, near the nitrogen tank, down a fixed ladder from the display board point — understanding the display board's position first makes the detector's location easier to follow.
Q4. Why was an installation height of 1.5m requested?
The client requested that the FIX800 be mounted at eye level, approximately 1.5m from the floor, for easy visual monitoring.
