A busy, eventful 2021 has come to a close, and the new year has begun.
Let's get right into it. Some of you may remember our earlier post about a gas detector installation at a wastewater treatment plant in Samcheok back in 2019. A relationship that began years ago eventually extended to another branch of the same organization — we had our first meeting in January 2021, and after delays caused by pandemic-related budget adjustments, the installation was finally carried out in November 2021. RS Korea handled everything from the initial order through installation and commissioning.
Worker safety training is mandatory at public-sector facilities before any on-site work begins.
After the safety briefing, the products and materials are laid out in order. This may look like a simple photo, but it's a useful record of the materials and tools used. Three detector sets — each capable of measuring H2S and combustible gas (EX) simultaneously — were installed at three locations, all monitored together on a single display board.
A thorough site survey ahead of time is essential for an efficient installation, especially when briefing crew members visiting the site for the first time. Two points matter most: first, the power supply location — this project used a spare breaker in the central distribution panel to power both the display board and each detector, making it the central point for power wiring. Second, the display board location — since readings from all three points converge there, it's typically installed near the site entrance where odor is most likely to be an issue. The chosen location also affects how difficult the communication cable routing will be, so selecting it carefully matters.
Cable trays add a bit of extra work to open and close, but they make for much cleaner wiring in the end.
For collection tanks, storage reservoirs, control rooms, or underground spaces handling any type of water treatment — where humidity tends to run high — a moisture pre-treatment unit is recommended. It protects moisture-sensitive gas sensors from failure, helps ensure accurate gas concentration readings, and its waterproof enclosure helps prevent damage to the unit itself.
Every installed unit is tested individually — checking power operation and gas response. Our FIX800 stands out as a detector capable of measuring multiple gases simultaneously with a single unit.
Training customers on proper use and maintenance is an important final step. Fixed-type gas detectors generally require little to no ongoing operation once installed — in fact, the less there is to operate day-to-day, the more it reflects a well-built detector. We walked the customer through the operating principles and maintenance essentials.
Readings confirmed hydrogen sulfide levels staying within the Industrial Safety and Health Act's exposure limit of 10 ppm or below. We hope for continued safe, accident-free work at the site, and look forward to working with another branch again in 2022.
