Nitric oxide (NO) is a toxic gas generated in high-temperature combustion processes, threatening workers in vehicle tunnels, coal-fired power plants, nitric acid manufacturing, and welding operations. NO rapidly oxidizes to NO2 in the air, increasing its toxicity further. The WANDI EDW500, certified with IECEx TPS 25.0057X international explosion-proof certification, simultaneously measures 5 gases including NO to provide real-time worker protection.
What is Nitric Oxide (NO) Gas?
Nitric oxide (NO) is a colorless, near-odorless toxic gas generated when nitrogen and oxygen react at high temperatures. Major sources include vehicle engine/tunnel exhaust, coal-fired power plant combustion, nitric acid manufacturing, welding and arc work, and explosive handling sites. NO binds to hemoglobin in blood, impairing oxygen transport, and rapidly oxidizes to NO2 in air.
Health Effects of Nitric Oxide
| Concentration (ppm) | Health Effects | Standard |
|---|---|---|
| 25 | Mild respiratory irritation | NIOSH REL TWA |
| 35 | Eye/throat irritation, headache | OSHA PEL |
| 100–200 | Severe respiratory damage, risk of pulmonary edema | Danger |
| ≥100 | Immediately life-threatening (NIOSH IDLH) | Immediately Dangerous |

WANDI EDW500: Optimal Solution for NO Sites
IECEx Explosion-Proof Certification — Zone 0 Safe
The EDW500 holds IECEx TPS 25.0057X certification with rating Ex da ia IIC T4 Ga (Zone 0, EPL Ga). It can be safely used in nitric acid manufacturing, explosive handling sites, and other high-risk environments requiring explosion-proof certification.
5-Gas Simultaneous Measurement Including NO
A single EDW500 simultaneously monitors up to 5 gases: NO, NO2, O2, CO, and EX. Since NO rapidly oxidizes to NO2 in air, measuring both gases simultaneously is essential.
🏆 IECEx International Explosion-Proof Certification
Certificate: IECEx TPS 25.0057X | Certifying Body: TÜV SÜD | Rating: Ex da ia IIC T4 Ga | Zone: Zone 0 (EPL Ga)
